In honor of mental health awareness month, on Saturday, May 14th, 2022, top sponsors of Beyond the Hardwood, Inc. and BaseAble attended “The Beyond the Hardwood Sneaker Gala.” Family and friends visit from all over the United States and Canada for the benefit.

Substantial hors d' oeuvres like sushi, crab cakes, party hot dogs, fried shrimp, chicken sate, beef kabobs, and salad were delicious.

This event was hosted by the NBA Hall of Fame Inductee Alumni, former Philadelphia 76er Jumaine Jones #33, and former MLB Boston Red Sox player Tony Vlahovic, who now works with special needs kids and the Special Olympics.

"I loved Tony Vlahovic's story. Tony was at the party with his wife, Nina. He shared the many obstacles he had to overcome starting at a super early age - he was a freshman in high school. Tony is resilient, plus he is making a difference in so many kids' lives!" said Michelle Leonard.

Kelly Cole, another event sponsor, helps former pro athletes, college athletes, and sports coaches become best-selling authors even if they hate writing and don't know where to begin. Dr. Oliver T. Reid joined Kelly Cole, and they gave an excellent presentation about the benefits of publishing a book. Kelly Cole is one of the fastest-growing book publishing houses and has had many success stories.

Jumaine Jones shared an emotional story about his life growing up, which genuinely tugged at my heart. He is an extraordinary person with a great story. His book "The Last Man Standing" tells his entire story, and it's available for sale on Amazon.

The event encouraged awareness of the importance of erasing mental health stigma and connecting youths and adults to mental health resources by providing pro bono care.

Lastly, Crystal Evans proudly announced Money Talks Edu's partnership with Beyond the Hardwood Foundation and their new headquarters located at the Rockefeller Center, NY, NY.

A representative from Aetna and Erin Flynn Jay, a reporter and publicist, was also in attendance.
